Heather,

Wow, this is such an interesting idea! I hadn't really thought of it in those terms, but this helps to explain a lot. I found so much of O'Connor's work so difficult to derive meaning from. By viewing her work as supporting the Catholic mysteries, we can understand what was going on more than just giving up on the stories in frustration.

I like what you are doing. I am curious about what this idea's implications might be on literary theory. Our whole profession is concerned with making meaning out of texts. I agree that by looking at O'Connor's fiction as mysteries (and thus unable to be explained) is helpful, but does this negate us trying to derive meaning here?

I was wondering if you were going to touch that at all in your conclusion or whatnot. great idea, again! One of the most interesting we've seen.

I thought it was really interesting how you are using O'Conner as a way to reveal mysteries. I thought it was interesting that you are using "Life You Save", and "Revelation". "Revelation" with the idea that "white trash" can still be saved. "Life You Save" with the idea of favor from her mother, temptation of being a good man, and Shiftlet's divine moment. I think this is a really interesting topic with the comparison of Human Nature and Theology.
